So, I'm aware it's been literally ages since any of us posted anything.

We've all just been busy growing up and becoming proper adults who have to work and make a living and take care of our husbands and recently, our babies too. Hehe.

But here's something truly worth raving about that has dragged me back to the keyboard just to scream about it so you lot would know: Burgers by @LuvYummylicious!

They have a wide selection of choices and are always expanding their menu, but here's what I've tried so far:

The Juicy Lucy (RM 15) -

Befitting its name, this baby's made up of a fluffy burger bun, a load of fresh salad and tomatoes, and a seriously juicy beef patty that's been stuffed with cheese!

Juicy cheesy centre

Hubs and I found this one thoroughly enjoyable and worth every penny, especially with that fat, cheesy patty.
Thumbs up from the big man

The Vader Burger (RM 15) -

With an excessively large breadcrumb chicken patty--and yes, it's all chicken with none of those processed stuff--this burger is big enough to satisfy huge appetites (God knows, I couldn't have finished it on my own).

Succulent chicken meat, crispy breadcrumb crust, heaps of greens, a fluffy charcoal burger bun, and their special sauce (wth is in that sauce?!) makes this one a must try.

From the top : Royal Swiss Mushroom Oblong Burger, The Yoda Burger, and Coney Dog with Cheeze

Royal Swiss Mushroom Oblong (RM 27) -

I know. You're looking at that price and thinking, "Really? For a burger?" But I can assure you that this is another not-so-normal-sized burger. For one, the panini bread makes up for it. Second, that heaping mountain of really tasty, I-don't-quite-know-how-they-cooked-it, mushroom gives it a sure punch. And third, there's a hell of a lot of meat (beef AND lamb!) right smack in the middle of that burger. And if you'd willingly pay RM 27 at TGI Friday's, why not here?

The Yoda Burger (RM 15) -

I must admit I was skeptical of this one for two reasons:

1. It's green.

2. I've had bad experiences with prawn burgers.

I'm happy to admit though, I was fairly surprised to find that I liked it (And I loathed myself that night for ordering it for the husband instead of myself)

What's special about it? Imagine biting into your burger patty, expecting blended up shrimps and instead finding actual tiger prawns! And that sauce! Seriously, I'm wondering if they put drugs in their special sauces.

Coney Dog with Cheeze (RM 7) -

One word: YUM!

So, so good!

And finally, this one's not a burger but it's the one thing I've ordered so many of, it's a wonder my blood sugar level hasn't risen.

In the spirit of trying new restaurants, my colleagues and I recently went to the South Sea Seafood Restaurant in Subang after my boss read a raving review about it, having been recently renovated and spruced up. To be fair, we were quite impressed by how nice the restaurant looked and how crowded it was. Their huge parking lot was filled up almost to the brim when we arrived at 8pm so we were really looking forward to some mouthwatering dishes as we made our way to our table.

Let's start THIS review with 10 points and deduct a point for every negative, shall we?

When we got to our table, it took about 15 minutes before they finally sent someone to take our orders (and the person they sent over was NOT nice!). We asked her what the house specials were and she said "crab, chicken, like that lah." She rushed through the entire process of taking our order, making annoyed faces while we made our decisions. When she was halfway through and we were about to order our drinks, she hollered to a different waitress and asked her to take our drinks order instead which we actually found irritating but fine, whatever (deduct a point).

When a waitress came with our drinks, we found out they got our orders wrong (deduct a point).

So here's what we ordered:

This was one thing they did right, thankfully. Although the first two pitchers came in tasting too watery, the next two pitchers were thick, sweet, and ice cold, just the way juices should be although we think RM 32 for a jug of juice is really quite steep.

I'm not much of a squid person, to be honest, unless it'd deep fried squid. BUT this dish was quite tasty. The squid that was served were whole baby squids and they were fresh and good enough for my taste buds. Not exactly awesome, though.

Buttered Prawns (RM 54):

I was quite honestly, very VERY disappointed when this was served. Yes, the prawn were quite large in size but I didn't like how it was cooked. We're used to buttered prawns that have the stringy butter thingies all over them and this one didn't. The prawns didn't even taste very good. In fact they were quite bland and tasteless (deduct a point).

This dish was oyster sauce based and i sincerely believe that its extremely difficult to screw up a dish as simple as this one.

For a dish THAT costly, I was expecting it to blow me away. No such thing. The fish was fresh BUT it was tasteless, much to our disappointment. It wasn't naturally sweet and the meat was tough instead of fall-apart-soft that fresh fish usually are like. A definite let down (deduct a point)

We were almost immediately disappointed by this dish. It was one of the last dishes to be served and after all the let downs we faced, we were so sure the crab wouldn't be any good either. We were half right and half wrong. The crab were not soft enough, and like the fish and prawns, they didn't have the natural sweetness going for them but the dish was sort of saved by the gravy wish was as thick and rich as what we're used to but had a little extra tang to it because of the chili bits that they cooked the sauce with. (deduct half a point)

Fried Mantou/ Chinese Bun (RM 7.20/dozen)

I was not happy with their mantou. Mantou should be soft and fluffy enough that it can absorb all the delicious goodness of whatever gravy you dip it into. This mantou was to small and the frying oil seem to have seeped through much of the exterior so that its insides is not as soft and fluffy as it should be. The outside of the mantou was also not crispy enough. So upsetting (deduct a point)

When the waiter who took our order was rushing us to place our orders, she actually forgot to jot down one of our orders. My boss left the place disappointed because she didn't get her sizzling tofu dish (deduct a point). And while i was eating, a waitress who wanted to change my bowl and give me a clean one instead failed to ask me if it was okay to take my full bowl away. She took away an entire bowl of lala. Uneaten. and threw it in the dirty plate pile. Which means, she wasted my food AND she was rude because she didn't ask first (deduct a point).

The bill came up to a total of RM 517.10; much more than what we're used to paying for a lot less than what we're used to having. We swore to ourselves that this will be the first and LAST time we ever set foot at this restaurant. And now they're left with 1.5 points. Which really goes to show, they're not even worth it.

But, if you'd still like to check 'em out,
In fact, considering how far out the shop lots are, it's easy to miss it by a mile.

Location aside, here's what we had and what we thought of them:

the Bread and Butter Pudding (RM 5.80)-

Fatin says: Nadal ordered this because according to her, she had the most amazing bread pudding in her aunt's house and she wanted to re-live the amazingness. I think the bread pudding hear fell short, though. I was hoping, since it was made with croissants instead of normal bread, that it would be softer and the flaky texture of the croissants would bring out a soft but crunchy texture to the pudding. I found myself a little disappointed. Although the pudding was tasty, it was a bit too dry (I prefer my bread pudding with vanilla sauce which they didn't have). I did, however, like that they had almond flakes baked in the pudding itself.

I guess I didn't expect what was coming. To be perfectly honest, it was a good lemon tart. Not awesome but good enough. The tart shell was baked perfectly. Not too garing and not undercooked either. I was hoping it would be a little sweeter. The tangy-ness and zesty-ness of the lemon custard was a bit too much for my taste buds. But if you like sour desserts, well hey, go ahead and try it!

These however, were awesome. One of the best I have tasted. These scones are third on my list of "Malaysia's Most Awesome Scones". Heheh :) My criteria for perfect scones include 1. warm (check), 2.buttery (check), 3. medium sized; too small and you'll need more, too big and you'll get pukey (check), 4.appropriate richness (check...well, sort of. Almost there) 5. served with good condiments (check and CHECK!) --good jam (seriously good jam) and quality clotted cream (not even the pre-packed type) so I don't mind that they charge an extra RM 3 for them. I hereby dub these scones, awesome :D

The shop owners were kind enough to allow us to sit in and specially extended their closing time to accommodate us which was really sweet of them.

Since it was closing time, there weren't many flavours to choose from. We picked out the lemon, rose, chocolate and lavender macaroons. As Nadal mentioned, the size of the macaroons are rather small for RM 2. They're about the puny size of 20 cent coins, too small to bite twice, and just...NOT big enough for sharing.

The shell of the macaroons in Whisk were too soft and didn't have the crispy-fall-apart-with-a-bite texture that macaroon shells are expected to have. However, the sweetness of the shells were not overwhelming. To me, shell-uncrispy-ness aside, the rose macaroon tasted a lot like antibiotics. The lemon macaroon had a nice sour tang that complimented the sweet shell well and the chocolate macaroon was so-so...nothing fantastic to be honest. I didn't taste the lavender macaroon as I'm wary of having something that's normally in my air freshener in my food.

Personally, I found the macaroons at Whisk rather disappointing after all the rave I've heard about it. I HAVE tasted better, but I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and revisit them during the day to maybe get the chance to try other flavours.

Nadal Razakhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379836171820088216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9059841897824707024.post-56764636946112710142010-09-08T04:22:00.000-07:002010-09-08T05:22:08.110-07:00Tamarind Springs, Ampang
The walkway from the main entrance to the restaurant was lined with candles and dimly-lit, giving off an ambiance of romance and mystery. With aromatic candles and joss sticks burning, it's a good getaway from the bustling city ambiance and perfect for romantic dates ;p

This dish was without a doubt, cooked to perfection, regardless of the fact that we were falsely led to believe that the tofu in question was the soft egg tofu. The broccoli was juicy but crunchy (not over cooked)
and went well with the soft texture of the tofu and the solid crunch of the cashew nuts. The taste of the sauce was a good compliment to the taste of the vege and nuts but the sauce was just a little bit too thick. The perfect mixture of taste and texture made this vege dish my favourite dish that night (and I'm not even a fan of vege).

Damn son! I mean, I know how vegetarians usually suffer from tasteless food (been on a vegetarian diet myself). But this entirely vege plate is like awesome. The gravy was not enough for us all since everyone was so eager of putting some on their rice (and because the portion is not big enough for 4 gluttonous devils, obviously).

The best part of the meal was the Cashew nuts really. I secretively just want to have more of that, but you know, it's Nadal's birthday. Meaning, the mission is to put them in her ass, and not mine. ~lalala~
When the dish first arrived, I though the curry looked like rain water mixed with yellow colouring. It looked too...for a lack of a better word, cair. But when I tasted it, I found that the sauce was of the right thickness, and the contrast of the sweet potatoes, with the slightly spicy curry was a treat to my taste buds, and it was so good to have sweet potatoes in the curry instead of normal ones.
Okay, Miss F's description and the picture obviously did not do the meal justice. The gravy is like awesome weh. AWESOME! and not overrated. To substitute usual ground potatoes with sweet potatoes is a very good change. I thought it was caramelized carrots or something, coz it tasted so familiar but nice. Nothing peculiar to the Asian tongue, really.

However, the whole look of the pot should seriously get some makeover. I mean, being honest in cooking is one thing. But overpaying for an ugly looking meal? Err, not pre-appetizing.

Miss F is able to say just that since she ate only the pamelo (Seriously Fatin?). And yes people, they serve pamelo WITH the soft shell crab. Luckily, the taste wasn't weird at all. Because take note at the picture, it is served with the gravy thingy. The gravy was what blends everything together really.

Well I guess you guys would know how a pamelo would taste like, so I'd skip that and focus on the crab itself. They fry the whole crab with god knows what mixture, it was alright. But there is something about the inside of the crabs. They are like cooked medium rare, meaning if they are beef, there're redness in the middle. But they are not beef (Duh!) so I tasted some "thing" in the crab. I haven't eaten a REALLY fresh soft-shell crab, so i'm guessing, considering the prestige the restaurant holds, they are super fresh. So I guess that was it.

I, by nature, am very adventurous with tastes. But most that I know out there isn't. Succulent and sweet, the roasted duck came to us tasting good and having a soft texture, which was fortunate since we were skeptical when we were ordering, worried that it would be too dry. The meat was juicy and cooked in a way that brought out all the sweetness of the meat. Dipped in the sour yogurt sauce, This dish was given two thumbs up all the way :)
Although service is a bit slow and the price is rather steep, I absolutely recommend Tamarind springs for special occasions because the food is awesome, and the decor is gorgeous so that makes up for the fact that the bill will burn holes in your pockets :D
Stepping into the double doors of Bumbu Desa in The Curve--with the Indonesian tradition inspired interior, the smiling faces of the simply dressed hosts and servers, the traditional Indonesian music playing softly overhead, and the smell of authentic Indonesian food wafting around us--we couldn't help but to instantly feel transported to Indonesia.

My mom picked out the fried talapia, ayam panggang, begetil, sambal terung, ulam with cabai ijeu, and a mushroom dish I can't recall the name of, and these were all served with a pot of hot rice. The dishes were all scrumptious. The crunchy talapia, paired with the soft mushroom, the succulent begetil, and the shock-to-the-brain spicy cabai ijeu was perfect.
